ABOUT ME

Vojtech Prilesky

I was born in Czech Republic and raised in Vancouver, BC. I worked in the BC forest services industry from 2006 to 2015 in various parts of the province and earned a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resource Management from UBC in 2011. After getting married, however, I realized the traveling lifestyle associated with the forest industry was not compatible with married life and decided to make a career change. So in 2015 I took up plumbing.

Why plumbing of all things? Because I wanted an in-demand job that was both physically active and mentally challenging, with the opportunity for continual learning and advancement. And it’s been a great fit! Now I’ve founded Swordfern Plumbing to expand my skillset toward entrepreneurship and customer service, while affording me time for endeavours outside of work. My wife and I engage in volunteer education work in the Persian-language community and love to get out to enjoy the natural beauty of our little corner of the earth. And anyone who happens to accompany me into the forest, I bore with excessive detail regarding the interactions between the trees, fungi, plants, and animals.

Oh, and in case it matters, I’m fluent in several languages: English, Spanish, Persian, and Czech. But as far as plumbing goes, it’s just English.

WHY THE NAME
SWORDFERN?

Western swordfern (Polystichum munitum) is a common plant native to BC coastal forests. It’s a large, attractive fern that is even used ornamentally in landscaping or as a house plant. But unlike many ferns, it’s also hardy and resilient; staying green throughout winter. So swordfern is an apt symbol of strength and beauty, both of which are characteristics that I aspire to in my plumbing work.
